In some cases Equity will work with extra’s to oversee cases that require a representitive. Equity do sometimes get it wrong and tend to favour credited actors over supporting artists. An anonymous supporting artist recently spoke of how he had been passed from pillar to post by Equity representatives and revealed he was terminating his membership because he felt “abandoned” by the union.“I think if I had been an actor their attitude would have been completely different, and yet Equity’s membership from supporting artists must be great,” he said.
Equity are fallible but, they have made some big mistakes in the past. Equity are being paid subs from members and therefore need to step in to talk to producers or other professionals when things go wrong.
Joining Equity is only possible if you have worked for at least six days as a walk on, background or supporting artist over a period of twelve consecutive months. The work needs to be in accordance with the appropriate Equity Agreement.
If you do not fall into the members who work within a 40-mile radius of Charing Cross in London another organisation called the FAA will cover those areas. This means that Equity cannot employ people within another union’s jurisdiction and so the work carried out under FAA terms does not count towards joining Equity.
As an Equity member Equity will negotiate agreements setting out the terms and conditions for the employment of Walk-on, Background and Supporting Artists in television. The Agreements currently in place are as follows:
Equity/BBC Agreement for those working on productions made by the BBC.
Equity/ITV Agreement for those working on productions made by the ITV Companies.
Equity/PACT Agreement with independent television productions outside the 40 mile radius from Charing Cross in London.
Equity/TAC Agreement for those working on Welsh language independent productions.
Equity have a free online directory for all who work as a Walk-on, Supporting or Background artist. Employers and casting companies use this directory to employ artists.

I do not know what I am going to do when it comes to my performance show case in a few months. I am supposed to be doing a dance and I have hurt my knee. I hope that this doesn’t mean I am going to fail the course. We go back tomorrow, but I am on crutches and cannot walk properly so I don’t know what it means where dance is concerned. I have put a lot of work into the course and to fail because I have a bad knee would be really dissapointing.
The thing is our course has been shortened to a year so if it was to be run over the two years it was supposed to be then I would get another chance to do the dancing. I think it is pretty unfair actually, but I cannot help my knee problems.
I am looking forward to holding the event a friend of mine on the course are planning. It should be a good day holding a Gospel singing day and I am excited to hear all the lovely voices. It will be full day where we put together a choir and then at the end of the day we will put a performance on. We have to advertise it and then sell tickets. I want to have some sort of ice breaker and to have a welcome pack put together for the day. It will take a lot of organisation, but we have had plenty of meetings about it.
I hope that we manage to sell enough tickets to pay for the room hire and the singing teachers. It would also be nice to make a bit extra so that we can go and see a show or something like that. Planning an event is never easy, but organisation and managing is an essential part of a successful event.

100 Exercises to Get You into Drama School: Improve Your Acting and Audition Skills - Jona Howl & John Rowe is clearly presented and accessible it puts readers first and communicates in a supportive and clear manner. It is the type of book that everyone who is serious about taking their acting career to the next level should invest in. Unfortunately due to circumstances I am too late to go to drama school in London. I have a house the other end of the Country and a family. I am still hoping that one day I will get a break though I know it won’t be possible right now to go to drama school in London. I am studying at my local college and already have a Btec National Diploma in Performing Arts. I want to take my career further, but when you have a family it is not easy. My advice is to go for your dream whilst you are young. If performing is truly what you want then it is more than a want, it is a need and one that you cannot ignore. I truly believe that you are born with the ability to perform and I was born with the ability to act. It comes naturally to me and I love it more than a lot of things in life.
This book is valuable for anyone at the stage of considering applying for drama schools. It is also valuable for any actor amateur or professional though it will definitely help to prepare you for auditions to acting schools. It is already extremely difficult to get into a drama school each year the competition gets tougher and knowing some tips can really help your chances. Today getting into drama school is more about the way you behave and act rather than talent. There are so many people who want to make it in the acting world that if you want a head start then this is the book for you. If you are serious about your acting ability then you should invest in a good book that will prepare you for what you can expect next and this is the book I recommend to you from personal experience.
This book will help you to prepare in advance for your audition at acting school. This book helps teach you about the inner workings of a drama school and what they are looking for in students. This advice is not available anywhere else unless you are a drama school worker and know the industry. This book provides help and support on improvisational skills with acting exercises including voice, movement, text and character all of which are needed in the important audition status that could land you a position in drama school. The book doesn’t leave anything out and gives a comprehensive look at all the aspects you need to take into consideration when auditioning. I know that I had lot’s of questions that I wanted answered and this book really helps to answer them and more.
There are content and acting workshops that look at posture, movement, the Alexander Technique, voice, working with text, preparing for the audition and how to present yourself on the day. The Alexander Technique is particularly useful for actor’s as it teaches the correct posture, breathing and stance however this book barely touches the surface where The Alexander Technique is concerned. It takes over three years to learn this technique professionally although basic advice can be learned from looking at the basics of the technique which this book does. I liked also how a resource section was included that includes a lot of the best places to study. Though that is down to personal choice and you might know someone who has been to a particular drama school and not had a good experience there. Specific exercises have been designed by a professional London drama school coach. The exercises focus on preparing you for improvisation and characterisation that you will need to know in time for your audition. The book helps you to polish the work you have already completed and get it up to the highest standards needed by top drama schools in London. The book helps you to get into the mindset of a professional actor and prepares you for studying for auditions in film, TV or theatre. There are many valuable lessons you will learn from this book that has been written by somebody who has a great amount of experience in the industry.
Jona Howl is the author and is also a world wide multi award winning tutor that presently leads the drama department of The Art’s Educational School, one of London’s best drama school’s. He has experience of being a West End actor who chose to leave the profession at the height of his career and follow the vocation of teaching. He has gone on to teach both young and old, amateur and professional and a large portion of his students have gone on to have very successful careers in the acting profession. As you can probably see it is a great blessing to have a book by a person of such high calibre. Therefore this book is worth every penny and more retailing on Amazon at £14.24 it is worth the price. I actually think this is considerably low priced compared with other books that can market at anything from £30 upwards.
This book actually gives you inside information that only acting professionals would know and therefore the knowledge is priceless. It aims to prepare the actor more fully for the audition process which can be a nerve racking process. Imagine having to perform in front of a panel of individuals who are going to decide whether you can continue your dream or not. Imagine being told that you are not as good as you think you are and the rejection that leaves you feeling. This book will certainly help to prepare you for the success but, also for the possible rejection. What I love about this book is that it has a mixture of audition suggestions that will help you get through the audition process, but also contains exercises that are practical and easy to carry out. You can even plan your own work schedule with aims to overcome milestones in time for the audition. With the help of this book you will be more prepared when it comes to auditions so the nerves might still be there, but you will know how to control them. You will also know how to behave when it comes to your audition. It teaches you the kind of things to say and the things not to say.

Recently I have just found out that I am pregnant again with my second child. I want to name my child after the Osbourne’s because my other blog is all about them. I would like to give the second name to my baby so if it is a girl I will call her Kelly, Aimee or Sharon and if it is a boy either Jack, Michael or Ozzy. Actually although Ozzy no longer uses his first name I would prefer it is a boy to call it Michael because my dad is also called Michael and it means who is like God? Although they say in Judaism that if it is a boy and you call it after your living father it is supposed to be a bad curse, but actually I don’t believe in that rubbish. I just think it is a silly superstician, but either way if I call the child Michael it will be after Ozzy and also my father so it doesn’t matter either way. Still there is plenty of time to decide since it is not due till November 18th and it is my birthday on the 12th November which means I might not have a very pleasant birthday. Last time I had a bad pregnancy and had preeclampsia which is an allergic reaction to the placenta. It was very serious and my kidneys were starting to fail. In the end I had to have an emergency Caesarian section, but my daughter is 3 now and fine.
I guess why I am telling you about being pregnant now is that I might not be able to write as much espescially near the end and then when I have the baby. I am going to try and keep writing, but it all depends on how busy I am going to be. It also depends on if I get ill again, but so far I feel fine, but it is still early days. If I do have to go into hospital I will keep you all informed via my husband who I will get to write on my blog just so that you know what is going on because you have all been good readers and I feel I owe it to you to keep you all informed.
Changing the subject I thought I’d talk about Britain’s Got Talent today. If you watched it on Saturday then you will have seen a rather remarkable lady who shocked the pants off the nation. Her name is Susan Boyle and I was in tears as I listened to her sing “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables. I am not reduced to tears easily but, everytime I listen to her I find myself in tears that I cannot help. This lady has a voice like you would expect to hear the angels singing in Heaven. I have never heard anything like it and what was most astounding is that I never expected a voice like that to come from a lady that didn’t look like she could sing. What they say is you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and this is so true where Susan Boyle is concerned. The audience were stunned and quite honestly so was I. Knowing what the industry is like where image is concerned I think that maybe they will tell her to change her image although I’d love it if they weren’t so shallow. I know this is what people think and this is part of the reason why people were shocked. The other reason is because this lady had a voice worthy of heaven and why she hasn’t been snapped up till now I do not know. It makes you realise that anything is possible if you want it enough. I have even decided that once I have the baby and things have settled down a bit I might actually audition for Britian’s Got Talent myself as an actress. I don’t see many actor’s on Britian’s Got Talent and I often wonder why this is. However all I can do is try and as this lady showed anything is possible. As soon as Susan Boyle releases an album I will purchase it and I hope that she goes on to win the talent show because she certainly deserves to.

I decided to do something different today. Fellow today.com blogger chameleonsdream is hosting a competition called, “The Great Coffee Mug Hunt” on her blog site. My job was to find her a mug that I think she would like. I took a while to do some searching and finally I think I’ve found a coffee mug that I think she would like. When I saw that her previously owned coffee mug had broken I took a little while to examine it taking into mind her style. I summed up what it was that she liked in her previous coffee mug and I think it came down to originality. I also thought about her two blogs on the Today.com network and the type of interests she has. When I saw this coffee mug it was original, had a great shape, had images that were different and interesting. I love the classic style and sophistication of this mug, but I must stress that if she or anyone else decides to buy this mug to keep it away from everyone else who might break it.Here is the mug I think would be a great replacement:

Using a skeleton as the image in the centre this mug also has a rather unique shape. It has a brown handle with a matching brown base. It would make a perfect gift or treat for yourself. It is sad that her treasured coffee mug was broken, but I do believe she will like this mug maybe even more than her other mug.

Miley Cyrus has admitted that acting is her first love and that she might refrain from singing for a while so she can follow her film career. Although she loves singing at the moment she wants to focus on acting.
Miley Cyrus revealed that acting was what she wanted to keep doing and that when she starred in Hannah Montanna it made her realise her acting dream. Those people who watch Hannah Montanna will be able to see how talented Miley Cyrus is as an actress.
Miley Cyrus said, “I think after people see the movie, they’ll see it’s really what I love. It’s my main passion,” she told People.
“It’s allowing the fans to continue to stay with me and not go too far too soon, but also be able to do something that I really love, and that’s film.”
Miley also said that working on her latest film ‘The Last Song’ is the type of work she would like to continue doing in the future. Miley Cyrus has a growing fan base and will no doubt continue in popularity as she develops her acting career.
Miley Cyrus who spoke to People said, “Right now I’m working on a movie with Nicholas Sparks, which is what I want to continue to do - to do drama.”
At the age of just 16 Miley Cyrus is already an established singer, but wants to pursue a career in acting. Currently Miley is working on a film with Nicholas Sparks and wants to carry on acting afterwards. There are not many people at the age of 16 who have it so sorted out that they know their career path, but Miley Cyrus is a mature 16 year old who clearly knows what she wants and how to get it. I send her sincere best wishes for her career as she seeks to fulfill her acting dream. I also look forward to hearing more albums from Miley in the future.

I watched a television show about Hollywood yesterday, before that time I didn’t realise how difficult it was to break into Hollywood. There are so many ideals, opinions and feelings about Hollywood that one never knows who to trust out there. Many of our late great actor’s had real class and integrity rather than go for a life in the limelight they entered into the war and fought for their Country. Sixty years ago the majority of actor’s chose to take care of their Country rather than taking care of their acting careers. I wonder how many people would do the same today?
Celebrities that are famous in the UK can literally go for five years without getting even one line in a film in Hollywood, but still they chase after their dreams leaving their UK lives at home. Even if a well known celebrity in the UK doesn’t get work in Hollywood for several years they won’t admit defeat and return home. Most of them keep fighting for a chance, a break that will guarantee them the success they want in Hollywood. If you get old in Hollywood you have no chance of getting work there as veteran TV writer Larry Gelbart said in a recent interview, “The only way to beat ageism in Hollywood is to die young.” Yet people are still trying to break into the industry in Hollywood where only the elite survive and have a lasting career. Even if you are lucky enough to break into the industry you will probably end your career with depression, relationship break down, addiction or some other type of concern. It’s a tough world out there and only the very best make it and sometimes even the very best never even get close. It begs the question why people want to make it in Hollywood? It’s a place where you will be out of work more than you are in work and in todays credit crunch society you might find yourself sleeping on a bench somewhere.
Yet there are still so many people out there who consider it easy to get into the acting world. Getting recognised can take a very long time if it happens at all. I guess what you have to ask yourself is do you really want to make it in Hollywood or do you want to make it as an actor? If it is the latter then there are many ways you could be successful. If you really want to go for it you could set up your own theatre group and write your own plays. If it is your dream to make it then you have to go for it because you will never be happy doing anything else. However, think it through and think out of the box because even if nobody employs you as an actor you can always set up your own drama group or do amateur dramatics.

There are a lot of individuals who get into acting through different routes nowadays. A lot of the time if you want to work in the professional acting industry then you will need an Equity card as a large majority of employers will only hire those with an Equity card. To qualify for an Equity card you will usually need some hands on acting experience first. There are different things that you can do to help yourself along the way. Joining amateur theatre societies gives you the experience you need to break into the industry.
Training of some sort through a school of drama or college can often help. Whilst some people train over a longer time period some just do the odd short course of study.
Agents are very good, but finding a legitimate acting agent can be difficult. An acting agent can get you many different types of jobs from television, radio, theatre and film work. You will need to put together a CV of your work and try to get accepted in their agency. Those individuals who have little to no experience don’t have a very good chance of getting accepted by an acting agent.
Network and talk to people being friendly and professional all the time. Although you might not like taking any job that you can find many actors started small and worked their way up.
Extra work can sometimes lead to bigger and better jobs. You also might find people to network with whilst you work as an extra. Although extra work isn’t the same as acting it does pay the wages. At the very least it will help you to gain membership of Equity.

Eastenders is a British Soap Opera and was one of my favourite television shows up till last week when I stopped watching it. The reason why I will never ever watch Eastenders again is because they killed off a character that I really liked. They left their audience watching whilst they built up a story line around a character named Danielle and her mother Ronny.Danielle Jones was brought into the show as an adoptive child whose real mother didn’t know that it was her child. After building the audience up for seven long months the producers decided to kill off the character with the lame excuse of it all being for drama’s sake. I tell you what I write better than that. It is like writing a book and at the end of it saying that it was all a dream.
There is a petition on the internet at the moment that is being sent to Eastenders bosses and I for one have signed this. If you watch Eastenders then you might like to sign the petition at.
http://www.petitiononline.com/DjonesEE/petition.html
It was too late for mother and daughter to bond as Janine ran over Danielle and Danielle died in Ronnie’s arms.
I’m sure it is not the last we will see of Danielle Jones whose real name is Lauren Crace as I am sure she will be cast for many more television shows. Lauren Crace has a lot of talent and she is not a one trip pony. I am looking forward to seeing her in other shows and think she is far better than Eastenders.
