At some point in your career you will probably hold a performing arts event that you will need to advertise this blog article will discuss some of the ways in which you can advertise, where you can advertise and how you can advertise. For some of the different types of advertising you will have to pay whilst for others you could get them for free or negotiate. At the end of the day it is about your budget and how much or little you have to advertise your event. It also depends on how nice companies are to you and whether you can offer them something in return. If you can offer to advertise them for free often they will advertise your event in return. Whatever happens you need to advertise your event or people won’t attend and the point of holding an event is so that you will get people attending. People have had a lot of success through flyers and pamphlets. You can either design these yourself or if you have the money you can pay to have them done professionally. You’ll need to have a few things in place before you go about designing your leaflets or getting someone to design them for you.

Firstly you’ll need to check the venue to see how many people it can hold and you’ll need to know the date of your event.

Once you know how many people the venue can hold then you can decide on the type of marketing campaign you will need.

Get creative. Opportunities exist to talk with people in similar fields and if you are studying then you have the vast opportunities of your school, college or university.

Choosing students from your place of study to help is a great way to incorporate volunteer help.

If you have someone with a particular talent working with you on the event work with them to spread the word.

Use the internet – through Facebook, MySpace, Evite or email – and send invitations out to people via them. Use local television, radio and newspapers to advertise your event.

You could even record your own advertisement and put it on Youtube.com

Pass out business cards with links to websites that people can check out for more information and also can print information out like a map that shows how to get to the event.

If you are a particular whiz with computers or know someone is you could get them to create banners to send out on the internet.

You could put banners in your street or place of study or use other signage to promote and advertise your event.

You want to make all of your advertising clearly visible and so that it convey’s the event that you are trying to market and also the date, of course!

Compile mailing lists and invitations depending on how many people your venue can hold.

You will also need to talk about your event to anyone you think might be interesting. You could hold meetings to market your event. For example, the event we are holding is a singing day held at our local Church so we will be going around some of the local Churches telling them about our Gospel singing day.

Use newsletters to let people know about the event.

Encourage people to tell others about your event.

Ask those who are spreading the word to carry books of tickets so that they can sell them on to their friends.

Send emails out to people about the event and when tickets are sold add the people to your email book and send out reminders about the event.

Advertise your event on noticeboards and ask people who work to advertise them on their noticeboards if appropriate.

Ask at local shop windows as they will usually advertise although some charge a fee.

Ask at libraries, cafes, hairdressers, laundromats or anywhere people gather or there is somewhere to place information. Some hospitals have noticeboards and also taxi ranks.

If you are studying quite often a real estate firm will lend a sign and sign writer for a few weeks.

Ask people involved with the event to deliver leaflets around their local neighbourhood. Approach local businesses that do regular mailouts and ask if they would mind dropping in an extra sheet advertising your event.

Advertise in free newspapers and local newspapers. Sometimes politician’s and council’s give out newsletters you can advertise in.

Contact local radio stations for news and an interview.
