Singing The Basics
Singing is unique to any instrument that you can purchase in a music shop. When singing it is the body that we use to produce the sound. It is therefore essential that before singing you need to warm up the body as you would if you were preparing for a workout of the body. It is important to realise that singing is all about your body and how you use it. Taking care of your body is one of the most important aspects of singing and it is one of the only ways you will improve your singing voice.Basic scales and arpeggios sung to different vowels and other sounds are good for gradually extending your range as your muscles warm up. Take each step slowly and listen to your body as it will tell you when you’ve had enough. In the beginning try not to do too much too soon as you can easily strain your throat and vocal chords. Once you have strained them they take a long time to recover so in the beginning try short sessions of about half an hour. Once you progress you can lengthen the sessions to an hour.
Posture is extremely important when singing. You need to be relaxed with a good posture. Stand upright and make sure that your shoulders do not rise when you sing. A better sound can be produced by avoiding to slouch or raise your shoulders and you need to stay calm, relaxed and natural as possible. It is good to start with a small body work out where you can corporate relaxation. It is important to remain as calm and relaxed as possible. The more you relax the better the sound you will produce.
