Acting The Basics
When you first start out as an actress what are the things you need to know and take into consideration to get the perfect roles that you want? Below you will find a list of the things you need:
- A Head-shot - get this done by professionals it costs more but, will be a lot better
- A Resume - with all the productions that you have been in, include all the experience that you have had
- A cover letter - with very basic things of who you are and your age, and that you would like to meet with their agency. Be polite an courteous at all times.
- Take acting classes - get as much experience as possible
- Look for an agent - don’t be fooled by scams that cost a lot and deliver nothing
- Submit for acting roles - again as many as possible
- Join an affordable casting site - some don’t cost at all, but be aware of scams
- Be prepared to be out of work for long periods of time - having something to fall back on can help here
- Get experience - through auditions, open casting calls, unpaid work and studying
- Go audition - Attend as many auditions as you can
- Learn how to tap into emotions freely without the need of a stimulus - Believe in your characters and this will come naturally
- Be versatile with your physical attributes - allow people to make changes to the way you look
- Be willing to dye your hair, shave your head and put on or lose weight thirty pounds for the characters you will need to play
- Have a job that you can fall back on this will help with financial difficulties
- Sell yourself - Promote, network - get out there and don’t be afraid
- Make yourself stand out - mix with others and talk about yourself with others, sell yourself
- Start with promoting yourself to casting directors - the more you promote the more chance you have of getting roles
- Attend open casting calls, audition or actor’s showcase - again this is all valuable experience
- Search online for casting notices, auditions and events in your area - a lot of sites will let you see the information free of charge
- Check classifieds for audition calls - Papers like Stage
- Attend all the auditions that you find - This will get you well known
- Don’t pass up the opportunity of unpaid acting jobs as these can be added to your resume - It is all experience
- Never stop learning - Don’t become vain be open to new learning oppotunities
