Jazz Dance History
Jazz dance is an excellent form of dancing that allows for an individual’s own style and interpretation. There is a lot of freedom to express yourself in jazz dancing. A good jazz dance class will be fast and energetic with a variation of hip – hop and show music. Not everyone will like the intensity of the class especially if you are not used to exercise, but you should start finding it easier if you stick with it. After a few weeks you will find it gets easier. You should start with a warm up that will help you to prepare for the dance class and the stretching exercises at the end will help you cool down. You can study jazz dance or find a class near to you where you can do weekly classes.
As World War I ended a social revolution began. Traditions and morals of previous ancestors were forgotten. Life was for living and appreciating each moment. Dancing grew more informal with close contact and many changes in partner. The dancing was intense and passionate.
There was one particular music style that fit this era perfectly and that was jazz. In dance halls and brothels of South and Midwest America jazz was often referred to as sexual intercourse. The word jazz has many different origins New Orleans, St. Louis, Memphis and Kansas City to name just a few. New Orleans was and still is an important jazz centre. Jazz has changed a bit over the years but, it is still as intense as it ever was.
